The Swim Club have returned to competition this season and have already made a splash.
On October 1, the U15 boys freestyle team competed at the ESSA Secondary Schools’ Team Qualifiers at King’s High School, Warwick, and were selected to compete in the finals with a qualifying time of 1.52.37.
They then joined more than a hundred other schools at the ESSA Secondary Schools Team Relay Championships on 20 November at the London Aquatic Centre, home of swimming for the 2012 Olympics.
The Championships is the longest running championship series organised by the ESSA. It is open to secondary school aged swimmers from across England, including state, public and home-schooled students. Teams compete in 4x50m freestyle and medley relays.
The Oundle freestyle team achieved a time of 1.51.02, and were placed a very respectable 12th overall: Kan (S), Fergus (C), Ben (StA), and Alexander (Sc).
Elsewhere, the boys U16 teams competed at the Stowe Relay Championships in a field of eight other independent schools. The medley team qualified with the third fastest time and won Bronze medals with a final time of 2.03.24: Austin (S), Julian (C), Alexander (Sc), Mathis (StA). The freestyle team pushed even harder and won Silver in the final with a time of 1.49.84: Kan (S), Alexander (Sc), Mathis (StA), Austin (S).
