Ten Oundelians received offers from a wide range of overseas universities, including Syracuse, Rochester, Boston, Virginia, Villanova, UCLA, and Pomona in the US; and Toronto, McGill and Hong Kong University. Acceptances included top destinations such as Dartmouth College, University of Pennsylvania, Williams College, Northeastern and University of British Columbia.
The last few years have seen a number of Sixth Form Oundelians choosing to attend university overseas, particularly the US, attracted by quality tuition and facilities, generous scholarships and the breadth of courses available. Pupils have also pointed to the range of extra-curricular activities and the greater opportunities for internships in the US, as well as the expansive experience to be gained from studying broad.
Applications outside the UCAS system take considerable extra work and commitment, along with support from staff specialists within the Careers department. As there is no common public curriculum-based exam in American schools, US universities use different criteria to evaluate applications. This leads to a more holistic admissions policy at US institutions, which is very advantageous to Oundle pupils. Those who immerse themselves in the vast range of co-curricular opportunities at Oundle are recognised for all that they do outside the examined curriculum. Pupils say that the all-round education at Oundle has been key to their successful applications.
