By Henry Purcell
Musical direction by Nick Warden
Performed by Oundle School
Purcell’s Fairy Queen is a magical reimagining of scenes from A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Purcell did not set any of Shakespeare’s text, instead he composed a sequence of masques which might have been performed around the original play. They are a metaphorical representation of the play’s themes.
Please join us for a semi-staged sequence of scenes from the opera. Featuring enchanting fairies, sequences depicting the seasons and the night with the odd godly interjection.
This promises to be a charmed baroque spectacular, all sung, played, and danced by our pupils.
