At Oundle, the child is always at the centre of everything that we do and fundamental to that is the role of safeguarding and welfare.

Safeguarding is all about protecting our pupils from any potential harm, whether that be online or offline.  This involves creating a secure environment where our pupils can learn, grow and thrive without fear or worry.  Welfare is about a pupil’s overall wellbeing – their physical, emotional and mental health. Together, safeguarding and welfare form the foundation of a positive school experience, supporting our pupils to do their best and flourish in all aspects of school life.

While we naturally have an array of essential safeguarding and welfare policies and procedures in place, it is the dedication and teamwork of our staff that truly ensures the happiness and safety of our pupils. Every member of staff is carefully trained so that whatever their context, whether it on the sports field or in a boarding or day House, they are alert to any concerns that may arise, and how to respond to them.  Our specialist staff are there to offer bespoke support to those who might need it.

Our safeguarding team is led by Deputy Head Safeguarding, Robin Banerjee, and Director of Safeguarding, Ben Raudnitz. They are supported by four Child Protection Officers who work closely with House teams, our award-winning Health Centre and the Emotional Wellbeing Team, guided by our Mental Health Lead, Natalie Jarvis, formerly of CAMHS.

When it comes to a pupil’s welfare, it is all about the triumvirate of home, School and of course the pupil themselves working together to allow each individual to be the best version of themselves and reach their full potential.
