This year’s British Physics Olympiad attracted a record number of over 2800 entrants from 440 schools across the UK. In Round 1, Pupils sat a three-hour paper that tested their knowledge, preparation and ability, and aimed to stretch and challenge top physicists.
Twenty-one pupils from Oundle were awarded certificates. Among them, six pupils were awarded Silver, ten pupils were awarded Bronze I and II, and two pupils were commended.
Ed (B), Will (L) and Mohamed (Ldr) were awarded Gold certificates. Significantly, Ed and Will were among the seven percent of entrants who achieved Top Gold awards, and qualified to participate in Round 2 last Half Term, when they sat a second three-hour paper. Only four other Oundle pupils have achieved this over the last six years.
The BPhO encourages the study of physics and recognises excellence in young physicists through annual physics competitions. BPhO Round 1 is their flagship competition and is aimed at Sixth Form pupils.
